We pray for the good earth which God has given us and for the wisdom and will to conserve it. (From The Prayers of the People, Form 1 on page 384 of our Book of Common Prayer. ALL of our “Prayers of the People”, even with Rite 1, include a prayer like this.)
How are WE doing?
God’s people at Emmanuel are:
- Recycling paper, cardboard, plastic, tin and glass
- Turning down thermostats when our buildings are not in use
- Turning off computers at night and weekends
- Conserving energy by using more fuel efficient furnaces
- Conserving water expenses by having a designated meter for irrigation. Do you have more suggestions on how we can preserve this gift from God, in our church as well as in our homes?

Curious about the Health Survey Questionnaire results?
It is clear that we at Emmanuel want very much to be healthy people physically, emotionally and spiritually. Approximately 60 surveys were returned of which 60% were from females and 40% from males. Ages ranged from the 20's to the 90's with 70% of the people being 60 years of age or older.
The top five categories identified were (not necessarily in order):
- Exercise, healthy eating and weight control;
- Blood pressure screening;
- CPR training;
- Long-term care planning
- Depression and stress reduction.
Our goal for this year is to work toward providing programs to address as many of these issues as possible. Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to fill out the questionnaire and help guide our Parish Health Ministry program.

During Lent we will read and talk about the book, “The Tent of Abraham.” After a simple supper at 6 pm, you may choose to experience the Alpha Program or share in this book discussion. The coauthors of “The Tent of Abraham” , representing the three major faiths (Judaism, Christianity and Islam), explain each religion's basis by delving into ancient stories.
Waskow, a rabbi, offers a perspective on the Abrahamic story, explaining symbolic themes of Judaism.
Chittister, a Catholic nun, describes the Middle East conflict with compelling anecdotes from her own firsthand experience in founding an Israeli-Palestinian women's group. Sufi writer Chishti discusses the spiritual content and opinions related to Islam.
Come and step into the world of Judaism, Islam and Christianity. Grow in your faith as you read how others look to Abraham to build their relationship with God. |

Ash Wednesday tells us that Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and self-denial; of reading and meditating on God’s holy word. That may sound boring and no fun. Yet the purpose of Lent is to be a special time set aside to get us growing, living again. The word “lent” comes from an old Anglo-Saxon word meaning “spring.” Lent is not to be a time to make us feel bad, but time for us to renew our relationship with God and with one another. It is to be a time to discover in our lives joy and compassion, faithfulness and fulfillment.
So, how are you doing? Isn’t it time to get going, to get growing again? Have you ever considered what that might look like?
Join us in our Lenten quest to know Christ more and to find new ways to make him known in and through our lives.
This Lent may Christ’s gifts
grow and bloom in us.

Emmanuel's new website is almost here and there's a bunch of new technology under the hood. This website is now on Google Sites and we have a Facebook page. As we get more familiar with this technology, it will be interesting to see what we can do with it. |
