Ecumenical Emergency Food Cupboard The Food Cupboard is located in the basement of Emmanuel's Parish House. It is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, except holidays, to distribute food and other necessities, at no cost, to those in need of its services. OUTREACH TO OUR SCHOOL CHILDREN School will soon begin. Children need school supplies more than ever during these rough economic times. All school supplies are needed, especially back packs and scissors. Person hygiene materials are also important. Many young students have “accidents” so schools appreciate both boys and girls underwear, socks and sweatpants. If you will bring items to the undercroft I will sort them and take them to the district office. [It would be great to have these items at the church as soon as possible.] Thanks in advance…Judy Heaney OUTREACH COMMITTEE NOTES: It is the purpose of the Outreach Committee to provide some of the joy of Christmas to local youngsters who might not otherwise experience it, especially in these times when many families are not able to buy gifts for their children. We have taken a break from meeting during the summer, but have been acquiring or making special gifts for girls and boys. We will resume bimonthly meetings in September (12th and 26th) and would welcome any help you can give us, from dollars to hours! It is important to collect as many quality toys and items of clothing such as warm jackets, comfortable shoes and clothes for children who might not otherwise have them. There is a basket in the narthex for toys and clothing items. We thank all who are willing to help! WHEN WERE YOU HUNGRY? Here is a guide to help us reach out to the hungry through our Food Cupboard. Together, we do make a difference. September - “Tube-a-Sunday” - Please bring cans of tuna fish October – “Harvest Sunday” - Please bring cans of fruit November – “Give Thanks” Sunday - Give thanks by giving veggies. Please bring canned veggies: peas, beans etc. Remember, food given through community programs to Community Action at best only trickle down to the Ecumenical Food Cupboard and even then we pay 14 cents a pound transportation cost for it. Instead give directly to our Food Cupboard and avoid the middle man. |
